June 20 - the opening day of Y Camp: Horsethief Reservoir's 2011 season - feels like forever on a chilly autumn day, but it will be here before you know it. And you don't want your child left out in the cold when the Treasure Valley Family YMCA kicks off our second year at Horsethief, a resplendent 408-acre resident camp in Valley County.Registration for all campers (new and returning) opens on Nov. 1. Register online at ycampidaho.org, via snail mail or in person at your local Y branch. (Paper registration forms are available for download online or at the Y.) Resident camp is open to everyone, Y members and non-members alike.
A week at Horsethief Reservoir makes for a fun, healthy and memorable holiday gift. Register by Nov. 30 and get a week of resident camp at the 2010 price! (Returning campers and their siblings have until Dec. 31 to register at the 2010 price.)
For over 100 years, the Treasure Valley Family YMCA has provided youth with lasting memories through our resident camp programs in Valley County. The 2010 Grand Opening season at Horsethief Reservoir - the first newly-built Y Camp west of the Mississippi River in over 60 years - was a record setter: We filled nearly 700 more beds than in 2009, an increase of almost 300 percent.
About 25 percent of our 2010 campers received financial assistance from the Y, which provided $76,000 in assistance to assure that no child would be denied the Y Camp experience for the inability to pay.
The 2011 season, which runs from June 20 to Aug. 20, will include more of our popular Teen Adventure Series camps, as well as a men's retreat and additional family camps. (Around 400 people experienced Horsethief Reservoir in 2010 through our family camps, women's getaway and group rentals.)
